At the back end of last year I decided to make a more affordable version of my Standard Irish bouzouki. The Session King version. So I asked players on my newsletter and forums what design features they’d like to see. A lot of players from all over the world filled in a questionnaire to help me design a prototype. The result was this pair of prototypes. One with a flat top and fixed bridge (like the Session King tenor guitar) the other has an induced arch – using a bit of ingenuity and modern tech I’ve made a flat top into an archtop without torturing it – without forcing it to take up a shape it doesn’t want to. So it’s like an archtop bouzouki but without the time and cost of carving a top from a solid block of wood.
Next week I’ll release the demo videos on my YouTube Channel. There will probably be three videos to watch – one for each instrument and one of me talking about the design process.
In the meantime, enjoy this little collection of pics.
These instruments will be around the same price as a Session King tenor, maybe a little more to cover the extra tuners, but the plan is to make a batch of these instruments later in the year. If you’d like to be considered to be in the batch, please fill in THIS form. I’ll be contacting those who have filled in the form in the next week once the videos are out.
