While some makers experiment endlessly with bracing and materials to shape an instrument’s “voice,” all my guitars are built with bracing designed for maximum volume and projection—without compromising structural integrity.
The real difference in sound, the true “voicing,” comes from the shape of the soundboard itself.
Think of it as the guitar’s topography: a flat soundboard produces a very different tone from one that’s curved. The shape affects the character, colour, and feel of the instrument. Even subtle variations in curvature can lead to very different sonic results.
To help you choose the voice that suits you best, I offer four distinct soundboard designs:
- SK – Flat top, for maximum bass
- SK Adv – A refined version of the SK
- SS – Standard arched soundboard for a more pronounced mid range and strong treble
- HO – Cylinder top for a more focused, direct response
Here’s how it works:
First, you choose your body shape — C, S, or D.
Then you select the soundboard design — SK, SK Adv, SS, or HO.
For example:
- A Model C with a standard arched soundboard becomes a C-SS
- A Model C with a cylinder top is a C-HO
- A Model C with a flat top is a C-SK
- A Model S with a cylinder top becomes an S-HO, and so on.
The body shape defines the sounds’ paramaters. The soundboard arching defines the voice. Tone wood choices further colour the sound.
Between us, when you order, we choose the combination that speaks to you.
