A full documentary film of a Celtic mandolin build — four instruments made start to finish in my workshop in South East Queensland.
I’ve been building Celtic mandolins since 1988, trained under Stefan Sobell, the maker most credited with defining what the instrument is. This film covers the complete process: selecting and preparing tops and backs, carving, assembly, fretting, finishing, and final setup.
The music throughout is played on instruments from my workshop by Ian Stephenson, Tom Kimber, Adam Rhodes, and Martin Reese.
