About

Handmade Instruments. Built to Be Played.

My grandfather taught me to play guitar when I was 13. That’s where it all started — not just a love of music, but a deep fascination with the instrument itself. At 17, when a teacher asked what I wanted to do with my life, the answer came easily: make guitars. He happened to know a local luthier looking for help. An apprenticeship was offered. Just like that, I was in.

From 1988 to 2003 — apart from a two-year break — I trained under English guitar maker Stefan Sobell. We built many fine instruments together. Those years shaped everything that followed: attention to detail, respect for materials, and a belief that a great instrument should be both beautiful and dependable.

In 2004, I opened my own workshop in Newcastle upon Tyne, making instruments for musicians across the UK and beyond.

In 2015, I moved to Leipzig — a city with a rich musical tradition — before relocating in 2018 to South East Queensland, Australia. My current workshop sits in the Gold Coast hinterland, between the sea and the mountains — a good place to think, to work, and to build.

Each instrument is handmade in small batches — usually two at a time — allowing for focus, consistency, and care. Clients include professional musicians, collectors, and serious players looking for an instrument that will inspire them for decades to come.

Many players take their time before deciding — so feel free to look around, join the newsletter, and get in touch when the time feels right. It’s always a pleasure to hear from musicians in search of something special.
